Distillate is cannabis oil refined until almost everything except the cannabinoids has been stripped away. It's thick, clear to golden, and has very little taste or smell of its own. That's why it turns up in so many vape cartridges and edibles, where it can be flavoured however the maker likes.
Because it's already been heated during processing, distillate is "activated." That means it doesn't have to be smoked to have an effect, which is a big part of what makes it so versatile. It's often sold in a syringe, which makes it easy to dispense small amounts without a mess.
How to use distillate
- Dab it: a tiny amount on a low-temperature nail.
- Add it to a joint: run a thin line along the flower before rolling.
- Eat it: if you add distillate to food, handle it exactly like an edible. Use the THC amount on the label to measure carefully, start with 2.5–5 mg of THC, wait at least 2 hours before having more, and don't mix it with alcohol.
Since it has so little flavour of its own, a thin line in a joint won't change how your favourite flower tastes. Distillate is very concentrated, though, so less is more no matter how you use it.
How to store distillate
Keep the cap on and store distillate somewhere cool and dark, standing upright if it comes in a syringe. It thickens when it's cold, so if it's too stiff to work with, warm the sealed container in a cup of warm (not hot) water for a few minutes. Never hold a flame to the container.
Clearly label anything you've added distillate to, and keep it all well out of reach of kids and pets. Distillate ships sealed and smell-proof in a plain box with no logos.

Distillate questions
Does distillate have any flavour?
Very little on its own. That's why it's often paired with added terpenes or flavours in vapes and edibles.
Can I eat distillate?
Yes, it's already activated. Follow the same rules as any edible: start with 2.5–5 mg of THC, wait at least 2 hours before more, and skip the alcohol.
Why is my distillate so thick?
It stiffens when it's cool. Warm the sealed container in warm water for a few minutes and it will loosen up.
